Learner Support Teacher
Nisga'a Elementary Secondary School
Nisga’a School District No. 92 invites applications for a Learner Support Teacher at Nisga'a Elementary Secondary School. Reporting directly to the principal, this is a full-time position starting September 1, 2024.
Nisga’a School District is located in the majestic and breathtakingly beautiful Nass valley in northwestern British Columbia. The district encompasses the traditional treaty territory of the Nisga’a Nation along the Nass River. People from around the world are drawn to Nisga’a lands to experience diverse outdoor explorations, including the volcano, Lava Bed Park, natural hot springs, fishing, hiking, hunting, kayaking/canoeing, biking, sledding, etc., as well as to encounter Nisga’a culture.
The Nisga’a School District is currently partnered with the MIT’s Learning Lab, working with Peter Senge and Mette Boll on building compassionate learning systems. This area of focus, along with a land based learning initiative provides an exclusive leading edge in professional learning that links system transformation, place-based learning, embedding Nisga’a language, culture, knowledge and worldviews, and truth and reconciliation. with exceptional instructional practice.

Additional incentives:
Moving allowance
Rent rebates/subsidies, furnished, affordable housing ($350 to $600 depending on size)
Competitive salary ($61,942 to $111,226)
Recruitment and Retention allowance for all teachers ($2,947 paid over 10 months of the school year, based on FTE).
Mentoring and coaching for new teachers.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated:
Have University qualifications and extensive experience in special education and learner support services
Have current Level B certification
Have extensive training and proven ability in planning and leading school co-teaching opportunities
A strong understanding of UDL formative assessment, executive function strategies and competency-based instruction
Appreciation for the key role that Language and Culture play in Indigenous Education
Commitment to working as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional goals
Respect for diversity, strong interpersonal skills, and an inquiry-based mindset
The ability to positively engage with and motivate students
Respect for and encouragement of meaningful parent involvement in school
Commitment to collaboration and teamwork
Competence in implementing the BC Curriculum, including current pedagogical and assessment practices
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for). Be legal to work in Canada
Committed to following the goals and strategies outlined in the school and district framework for enhanced learning.
Working knowledge of the learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies within the BC Curriculum.
