Reporting to the Unit Manager, the incumbent will be accountable for the efficient and viable shift operation of the catering facilities on campus. Major responsibilities include supervision of all unit operational staff, ensuring acceptable standards of quality, nutrition, variety and presentation; ordering food, paper and cleaning supplies, maintaining acceptable standards of sanitation and safe working procedures; scheduling of staff to ensure adequate service and minimal expenditure on overtime and part-time staff, supervision, training and motivation of staff; ensuring safe, accurate handling of cash flows and security of unit; recommending changes in staff, hours of operation etc.; complying with Federal and Provincial regulations as required by the Liquor Licensing and Control Boards of Ontario; helping to ensure that innovative practices are maintained within the food service program by developing and raising awareness of current and emerging technological trends; attending regular student meetings to stay abreast of current market problems and demands.
Requirements of the position include: Two (2) year Community college graduation (degree in hotel and food admin/business preferred) and several years managerial experience in a food service operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; past experience should include working knowledge of portion control systems, procurement experience of supplies and services, licensed operations, cafeteria layout and food processing techniques; proven supervisory experience, demonstrated leadership ability, initiative and above average communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in Conferencing & Catering areas would be preferred.
