Associate Director, Indigenous Initiatives

Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Associate Provost, Indigenous Initiatives will provide strategic support and assume primary responsibility for the implementation of the core priorities of the Indigenous initiatives team. Primary Responsibilities: Change Management Guide McGill University’s efforts towards reconciliation through the lens of change management and proactive sustainable collaborations with colleagues across the University in faculties and administrative units (e.g. Human Resources, Equity Office, Enrolment Services, Student Services, Procurement Services.) 52Calls to Action With the Associate Provost, lead and monitor the advancement and implementation of the Calls to Action from the Provost’s Task Force on Indigenous Education and Indigenous Studies such as the following:
• In close collaboration with relevant Units/faculties, provide strategic leadership and direction for the implementation of initiatives pertaining to Indigenous Physical Representation and Symbolic Recognition (eg: New Vic Project, Fiat Lux).
• Report annually on their implementation including the identification of factors impeding progress and recommendations to address them.
• Work in close partnership with the Associate Director-Indigenous student success to ensure robust support of Indigenous students at McGill, and the Indigenous Sr. Curriculum Advisor.
• Provide high-level support for the Indigenous Associate Provost with regards to academic matters pertaining to communications/support for Indigenous faculty members and curriculum content. Annual & Special Events
• Oversee program development and implementation of special and annually recurring programmes (e.g. Indigenous Awareness Weeks, National Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Welcome Ceremony.)
• Work in close collaboration with internal partners to observe Truth and Reconciliation Day. Communications and Partnership
·Actively engage with McGill internal and external Indigenous communities and organizations to build partnerships and strengthen relationships. ·Oversee communications strategy both internally and with Indigenous communities.
• Attend senior level meetings and represent the unit at internal and external meetings. Administration
• Oversee all aspects of Unit operations including staff supervision.
• Develop/Ensure compliance with established administrative and financial processes.
• Oversee and coordinate grant submission, management, and reporting. Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
• Experience leading institutional cultural change and in supporting cross-cultural understanding
• Demonstrated strategic and leadership skills and track record for creating and sustaining effective staff teams and positive work environments
• Significant experience working with Indigenous communities and strong cultural knowledge
• Experience working with members of a senior leadership team working on broad institutional priorities and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
• Demonstrated track record of taking initiative, team building and leadership capacity to bring together diverse stakeholders and develop efficient teams, leveraging individual strengths, and overcoming differing points of view.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure and to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines
• Composed under pressure with an ability to cope effectively with change.
• Excellent communication skills in English. Ability in French and one or more of Indigenous language is an asset.
Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree 5 Years Related Experience /
Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 06) $73,350.00 – $91,690.00 – $110,030.00
