Counsellor, Winter Holidays Camps

POSITION OVERVIEW

YMCAs of Québec day camps offer fun activities that are both physically and intellectually stimulating. The Y has long been recognized for its youth and child development programs. Our activities are inclusive and take into account the needs and interests of each age group. Our Winter holidays program is offered to many children at two sites: Chalet Roxboro and Parc Grier (St. Anthony).

Reporting to the camp Coordinator, counsellors will work with children aged 5 to 12 and ensure that they have a safe and meaningful camp experience. They will lead and animate age-appropriate activities for children. They will participate in all aspects of camp and have positive interactions with children, parents and other members of the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will work with other counsellors to prepare, coordinate and lead fun and age-appropriate camp activities
  • You will lead and supervise outdoor programming, including sledding and skating in the public park facilities.
  • You will follow and ensure the respect of on-site sanitary measures
  • You will make sure that children are being adequately supervised at all times and that the camp is safe.
  • You will regularly communicate with parents and answer their inquiries in a prompt and courteous manner to develop and maintain positive relationships with them and their children.
  • You will assist and participate in all camp preparatory meetings and training sessions, including camp meetings.
  • You will adhere to the YMCA’s policies and procedures on the protection of children and vulnerable adults.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • You must have experience working with children and youth.
  • In order to comply with the standards of the Association des camps du Quebec, you must be at least three (3) years older than the oldest participant (15 years old).
  • You must have experience working in a summer or day camp (an asset).
  • You must have valid First Aid and CPR certification by the first day of camp
  • You must be proficient in French and English.
  • You must not have a criminal record in connection with employment.

CONDITIONS

  • Location: West Island: Pierrefonds-Roxboro
  • Status: Seasonal
  • Salary: $14.00/hour
  • Schedule: December 23, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, and January 3,4, eight hours per day
  • Mandatory meetings and training sessions: One evening at the start of December (Virtual signing the contract), 3 hours of virtual training, and one day of in-person training before camp.
  • Employment start date: From December 23rd, 2021 to January 4th, 2022
