Head Chef, Camp YMCA Kanawana Kitchen

Each day, more than 1,000 people work with the YMCAs of Québec network, providing a variety of services that create positive change in people’s lives.

Under the supervision of the Regional Camp Director, the Head Chef will be responsible for coordinating Camp YMCA Kanawana’s food services, between mid-May to mid-October.

What challenges will you tackle?

  • Manage all the food service logistics for Camp YMCA Kanawana, including deliveries, menu creation, meal preparation, personnel management, etc.
  • Involve, supervise, train, and support team members responsible for providing food services with the support of the Regional Camp Director.
  • With the help of your team, prepare about 1,000 meals per day during the summer period.
  • Create a menu that has vegetarian and gluten-free options and have it approved by a dietician, in compliance with ACQ standards.
  • Build good relationships with suppliers to obtain the best quality for the best price according to the seasons.
  • Prepare food and equipment orders and manage inventory based on the defined budget.
  • Coordinate the serving of the meals and ensure that all the food service activities are safe and respect industry standards.
  • Adhere to YMCA policies and procedures regarding the protection of children and vulnerable people.
  • Understand and integrate philanthropic values into your role and the Association, and attend annual fundraising campaigns and Foundation events.

Who we are looking for?

To successfully carry out their mandate, the Head Chef must:

  • Have a DEP in professional cooking.
  • Have a valid MAPAQ certification.
  • Have at least three years of experience as a chef and food services supervisor.
  • Have experience producing a large quantity of meals.
  • Be bilingual (French and English)
  • Want to work with young people in a summer camp and outdoor recreational setting.
  • Be available to work a variable schedule.
  • Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
