This is a Contract position in Salt Spring Island, BC posted August 27, 2024.

School District No. 64 (Gulf Islands) invites applications for a 1.00 FTE Temporary Intermediate Teaching position at Salt Spring Elementary School on Salt Spring Island, B.C., located between Vancouver and Victoria in the Strait of Georgia. The school enrolls approximately 250 students and seeks an energetic, creative, and enthusiastic teacher for grades 4/5. The effective date is imme-diate until June 30, 2025, or the return of the incumbent. The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $68,017 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications per the collective agreement.

Necessary Qualifications:

Documented evidence of:

• B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate

• Specific training, coursework and current experience as an intermediate teacher

• Experience teaching students working at a wide range of levels (emergent literacy/numeracy to enrichment)

• Successful experience implementing programs and IEPs for students with complex learning needs

• Effective use of formative and summative assessment to support student learning

• Exemplary team-teaching experience in multiage learning environments leading students in activities that promote their academic, physical, mental and social development

• Current training and exemplary experience in positive behaviour support systems

• Ability to plan, facilitate and evaluate self-directed learning and reconcile with provincial learning outcomes

• Ability to deliver inter-disciplinary/thematic programs

• Experience using appropriate technology to support learning

• Strong background in play-based, project based, and inquiry-based learning

• Exemplary behaviour management and organizational skills

• Experience working in inclusive environments supporting learning for all students

• Specific training, coursework and current experience in intermediate literacy and numeracy

• Collaborative approach working with colleagues and a commitment to work on team goals for the improvement of student achievement

• Experience in planning and teaching outdoor environmental-based education experiences

• Proven ability and willingness to enroll, implement and support parents and community as integral contributors to learning

• Ability to respond with flexibility, and good humour to a wide range of changes and challenges in a small school setting

• Commitment to professional growth
