Japanese Teacher

YMCA of Quebec

This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted November 15, 2022.

Japanese foreign language teacher for live/online group courses in our evening language program


The teacher is responsible for giving live/online group classes to an adult clientele. The teacher prepares relevant and dynamic classes that will help the learners improve their second language (Japanese). The teacher must also perform some administrative tasks and meet necessary deadlines.


  • Prepare and teach theoretical lessons on grammatical structures and integrate interactive activities focusing on speaking and listening in order to meet the program’s objectives, as well as the specific needs of the diverse learner(s).
  • When applicable use the book and or workbook and keep to an assigned schedule.
  • Establish a positive rapport and a solid level of understanding of student needs, while engaging the students as active learners in the classroom.
  • Prepare and assign homework enabling students to practice reading and writing outside the class.
  • Evaluate the learners based on the course criteria.
  • Properly fill out electronic administrative documents (timesheets, progress reports, rosters, etc.).
  • Adhere to the YMCA’s Child Protection Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand and integrate the value of philanthropy in one’s job position and in the Association, and participate in activities / fundraising events.


  • Have a university degree preferably in Education or a related field.
  • Speak Japanese with a native or native-like proficiency.
  • Have experience teaching languages, preferably in Canada.
  • Have access to a computer (windows 10, if possible) with a reliable internet connection.
  • Have working cam, mic, and other peripheral devices and an appropriate work-from-home space.
  • Have a good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (e-mails).
  • Knowledge of google suiteclassroom an asset.
  • Have no criminal record in connection with employment.
  • Be qualified to legally work in Canada (or have a valid Canadian work permit).


  • Location: Working at the YMCA Downtown and from home
  • Status: Part-time
  • Salary: According to the YMCA scale
  • Schedule: Variable January 2023
  • Employment Start date: January 2023
