We are currently seeking a talented Temporary French Teacher to join the Jack Hulland Elementary School team. JHES acknowledges and respects, and are grateful for the opportunity to work, learn and play within the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. Jack Hulland Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 neighbourhood school aiming to foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive educational environment; one where each student is supported to meet their full potential. This position provides an opportunity to work as a Temporary 0.8 FTE Core French Teacher at JHES from August 20, 2024, until December 20, 2024 during 2024/2025 school year. JHES is a Ready to Learn School, using the Neurosequential Model in Education to drive our practice.

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education

• Teaching or pre-service teaching experience in a Core French program at the elementary level;

• Teaching or pre-service practicing teaching experience using Assessment for Learning strategies;

• Teaching or pre-service practicing teaching experience implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies or other student social and emotional skills development programming;

• Knowledge, skills, and training related to the Neurosequential Model in Education (NME) informed practice is an asset.

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• A knowledge of & sensitivity to the culture & aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon & a culturally diverse student population.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships when working with students, families, staff members and administrators;

• Effective and respectful classroom management;

• Strong planning and organizational skills;

• A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within classroom programming designed to meet student needs;

• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles and to meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans;

• Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team and to promote, support and work collaboratively with all staff on school initiatives within the total school program;

• Willingness to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the school and to support the school growth plan.

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.

• Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.

• Relocation may be available.

• If you are a permanent (indeterminate) teacher in a Yukon school, you will need to seek permission from your Superintendent to apply on this temporary job
