Permanent Full-Time Special Education (Resource) Teachers

with Benefits

A Permanent Teachers On-Call (TOC) is a full-time continuing employee who will be placed into long-term temporary positions (i.e. medical, parental leaves etc.), a continuing contract or work day to day in various Elementary Schools.

The Special Education Teacher:

May work in areas that range from inclusive classroom settings to smaller self-contained classrooms. To learn more about the various programs within our district, follow this link: Learning Support Programs and Services

Works with students with developmental disabilities and/or autism

Conducts a variety of assessments including classroom observation, curriculum based, informal and formal

Provides direct instruction to students using a variety of teaching and management strategies

Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized education plans (IEPs)

Uses Functional Behaviour Assessments to develop positive behaviour support plans

Liaisons with parents, school, district staff and multi-disciplinary team (eg. doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, social workers)

Works collaboratively as part of a team.

Qualifications:

Completion of a Bachelor of Education

Completion of one of the following:

Masters in Special Education

Diploma in Special Education

1 year Full-Time Continuing contract as a Resource Teacher.

Prior teaching experience is an asset.

Completion of an Educational Assistant program and/or experience as an Educational Assistant is an asset.

Membership in or eligible to become a member in the Teacher Regulation Branch

Registration with the Teacher Qualification Service
