POSITION

Worksite: Chilliwack Secondary School

Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Assignment Area(s): English Language Learners and Social Studies 10

Salary Range: $59,711 – $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately to not later than June 30, 2025 (or return of teacher)

Please Note: We are willing to consider applicants who do not possess the qualifications for this assignment. There will be required in-service for the successful candidate to complete.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment

• specialized course work in the following areas of ELL: teaching methodology, cross-cultural sensitization, multicultural studies, and applied linguistics

• cultural awareness and experience in Aboriginal Education

• experience teaching landed immigrant and international ELL students

• knowledge of ELL Ministry of Education eligibility criteria for 1701 reporting

• experience in conducting formal, level B assessments on ELL students

• experience in developing Annual Individual Plans (AIPs) for ELL students

• knowledge of current best practices in education of ELL students

• knowledge of SIOP or a willingness to be trained in SIOP

• demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues to support ELL students at the secondary level

• successful teaching experience Social Studies 10

• successful experience teaching with the use of a learning management system such as Moodle

• demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as an student services department

• demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom

• demonstrated commitment to the use of results to improve the teaching/learning process

• demonstrated commitment to use technology to leverage student learning and to communicate consistently and effectively with parents

• demonstrated excellent classroom management behaviour management and classroom organization skills

• demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for working and developing positive relationships with adolescents

• commitment to working with parents as partners in student success

• demonstrated ability and knowledge of strategies necessary to motivate young adults to achieve at a high level

• demonstrated commitment to professional learning & development for this assignment
