Contract Type: Temporary, Full-Time

Assignment Area(s): Art 9, Career Life Education 10-12

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately until not later than January 24, 2025 (or return of the teacher)

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment

• demonstrated competence in teaching Art and Career Life Education at the Secondary School level

• demonstrated ability to teach a variety of art methods including sketching, painting, graphics, digital photography, computer graphics, and sculpture

• demonstrated willingness to explore and implement concepts from the new curriculum including awareness of and experience working with the First Peoples Principles of Learning

• demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of learning abilities and implementing strategies for adapting curriculum

• demonstrated ability to devise and use a variety of assessment processes, including competency based assessments, that effectively allow students to demonstrate their learning

• commitment to creating opportunities for students to display their artwork (e.g. school, community, school board office, art shows, community events, etc.)

• commitment to liaising with the Sardis ‘family of schools’ to promote vertical integration and alignment

• demonstrated ability to consistently incorporate a wide range of effective classroom management strategies that maintain the dignity of students with an emphasis on a proactive approach

• an exemplary work ethic with proven ability to work as an effective team member

• demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of adolescent development and enthusiasm for developing positive relationships with adolescents

• proven ability as a curricular leader including exemplary organizational and time management skills, creative problem-solving skills, effective team building skills and strong communication skills

• demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills

• demonstrated commitment to the use of technology to enhance and leverage effective instructional practice and track student learning

• demonstrated commitment to use technology as part of a larger initiative to communicate consistently and effectively with parents and students

• demonstrated commitment to and engagement in lifelong professional and personal learning
