Contract Type: Temporary, Full Time

Assignment Area(s): Applied Design, Skills and Technologies – Visual Arts (80%) Grade 6-8 – English Language Learners Grade 6-8 (20%) Teacher

Salary Range: $59,711 to $109,520 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: Immediately but not later than June 30, 2025

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

• extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching in all areas of this assignment

• knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education’s current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment

• specialized course work in the following areas of ELL/ESD: teaching methodology, cross-cultural sensitization, multicultural studies, and applied linguistics

• cultural awareness and experience in Aboriginal Education

• experience teaching landed immigrant and international ELL/ESD students

• knowledge of ELL/ESD Ministry of Education eligibility criteria for 1701 reporting

• experience in conducting formal, level B assessments on ELL/ESD students

• experience in developing Annual Individual Plans (AIPs) for ELL/ESD students

• knowledge of current best practices in education of ELL/ESD students

• knowledge of SIOP or a willingness to be trained in SIOP

• demonstrated understanding of the curriculum organizers as documented in the Curriculum Competencies for all areas of this assignment

• familiarity with and supportive of a restorative approach to student discipline

• evidence of personal initiative and strong work ethic with a proven ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member

• excellent communication skills with parents, students, and other staff

• demonstrated ability to plan instruction and use highly successful assessment strategies in a muti-graded classroom – for, of and as learning – using an integrated/cross curricular approach

• demonstrated ability to plan/co-plan and teach/co-teach in a flexible, learning environment

• demonstrated ability to recognize and acknowledge individual student differences and adjust instructional practices accordingly through the lens of Inclusion.

• demonstrated ability to set and clarify learning standards and to establish effective classroom procedures and relationships

• demonstrated excellent classroom management, behaviour management and classroom organization skills; experience with Positive Behaviour interventions and Support (PBiS) is an asset

• demonstrated high energy and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to inspire confidence and self-worth in adolescents
